The Guardia Civil of the Almeria Command, during the development of Operation «Perfilería», arrested five people as perpetrators of two crimes of burglary in housing and a continuous crime of burglary in a closed and out of service hotel in the municipality of Mojacar.
This operation is part of the plan against house burglary and the national plan against copper theft and in general in the fight that the Guardia Civil of the Almeria Command is carrying out against crimes related to property in the province.
This investigation began last February, following a complaint filed by representatives of a hotel located in the municipality of Mojácar (Almería), in which they informed the Guardia Civil of the commission of various thefts of material, mainly aluminium profiles for doors and windows.
Personnel from the Guardia Civil of the Almeria Command began the investigation by compiling the evidence available at the place where the theft was committed and the possible information derived from the witness statements.
As a result of this investigation, it is determined that the perpetrators use rented vehicles, for one day, purchased by the youngest members of the organisation, who do not yet have a criminal record, to evade police action. These young people are in charge of selling the material that has been stolen by the older members (who have numerous judicial and police records) to different recycling companies.
The staff in charge of the investigation located the sale of more than 4,000 kilograms of metal and scrap metal in different recycling companies and in different parts of the province for a value of around 6,500 euros. It was also found that the perpetrators were involved in the theft of household goods, valued at more than 5,000 euros, from two houses located in the town of Mojácar.
On the other hand, there are indications that the economic benefit obtained from the sale of the stolen material could be even greater, and that the perpetrators could be hiding profits in excess of 3,000 euros to avoid accounting to the tax authorities.
As a result of Operation «Perfilería», the Guardia Civil of the Almeria Command arrested five people as perpetrators of two crimes of burglary in homes and a continuous crime of burglary in a hotel in the municipality of Mojacar. The detainees have family ties and two of them have numerous previous convictions for different offences, and the proceedings, together with the detainees, have been handed over to the Dean’s Office of the Judicial District of Vera.
