The Royal Opera House will broadcast live, via satellite, the live performance of Turandot, the last opera by Giacomo Puccini. It will be next Wednesday, 22 March at 20.30.
Cines Centrofama in Murcia, Acec Almenara in Lorca, Cines Mandarache in Cartagena and Cines Dos Mares in San Javier host the Murcia Region. More than 100 cinemas in Spain will screen this classic Andrei Serban production, which will also be broadcast to other countries around the world, from the UK to New Zealand.
The spectacular and thrilling 1984 production by the renowned Andrei Serban has long been a classic. It draws on Chinese and Italian theatrical traditions to evoke a vision of ancient China steeped in legend and fantasy. A magnificent spectacle of intense colour, dance and drama, it has already sold out on the main stage of the Royal Opera House for the day of the broadcast.

Puccini’s score is rich in musical wonders – including the instantly recognisable ‘Nessun dorma’ – and offers an evening of memorable arias, chorus numbers and moments of high drama.
For the live broadcast, Royal Opera music director Antonio Pappano leads an international cast that includes Italian soprano Anna Pirozzi as Princess Turandot, tenor Yonghoon Lee as Calaf, Masabane soprano Cecilia Rangwanasha as Liù, and Vitalij Kowaljow as Timur. It also features the orchestra and chorus of the Royal Opera House.
At the court of Princess Turandot, suitors who fail to solve her riddles are brutally murdered. But when a mysterious prince answers correctly, he suddenly has all the power. When life hangs in the balance, can love conquer all?
Sung in Italian with Spanish subtitles, the opera lasts approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes, including two intermissions. The broadcast includes exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, interviews and information on the rehearsal process. Versión Digital is in charge of theatrical distribution in Spain.
