Antonio M. Pascual «Olula del Río should have a Residence for the Elderly and for people with disabilities».
The project wants to materialise in the old IES Rosa Navarro and the Delegate of Social Policies, Francisco Bellido, is already working on achieving the concerted places.
«The old IES Rosa Navarro has to be ceded to the town for a use of general interest». This is how the Mayor of Olula del Río, Antonio Martínez Pascual, sees it, and that is why the Town Council has already asked the Junta de Andalucía for the transfer of this space, currently in a state of abandonment, in order to make one of the great demands of the municipality a reality; a Residence for the Elderly and for people with disabilities.

A few days ago, the Delegate for Economy, Finance and European Funds, Industrial Policy and Energy, Guillermo Casquet, accompanied by the Mayor, visited the facilities of the old institute to discuss the transfer of the land to the Town Hall, as a first step in defining the project. «From the Delegation we are committed to study the request and speed up the procedures for the transfer with the General Directorate of Heritage,» said the head of the Board.
A first step that will be decisive for this service, which is in great demand by the local residents, to get up and running. «Once the property is handed over to us, which we hope will be soon, we will be able to put the project out to tender. A Residence for the Elderly and for people with disabilities that Bellido as Delegate and myself as Mayor, have already conveyed to the councillor, the vice-counsellor and the general directors of the Department of Social Policies. It is our goal that the residents of Olula have a residence close to where we have grown up and where we are living».
Despite being one of the largest towns in the Almanzora region, Olula del Río lacks a residence for the elderly, something Martínez explains in this way. «How is it possible that a residence was built in Macael, in Tíjola, in Oria, or in Serón, and not in Olula. I have always asked the Junta de Andalucía why it was not done in Olula del Río. And they always answered me that for the concert of places, the ratio was not yet covered as they are absorbed by the Residence of Macael. So it was very difficult to get our residence to have places arranged. And a residence for the elderly without places is like a private residence, and not everyone can pay that cost, plus it would be very difficult for the concessionary company or at the municipal level, it would be very difficult to move the project forward,» explains the mayor.
«We are confident that now we can get the Residence. We have our delegate, Francisco Bellido, committed to making it a reality,» concludes Martínez Pascual at the request of La Comarca Noticias.
