Cantoria has become this weekend the centre of hiking in the region, especially for those who have been practising this sport for the longest time, as it has hosted the XV Andalusian Meeting of Veteran Mountaineers.
Organised by the Andalusian Federation of Mountain Sports, the Cantorian Consistory and the Senderos Almanzora Club, and sponsored by the Provincial Council of Almeria, around 230 hikers gathered in this town in the Almanzora region, attended by clubs from all the provinces of Andalusia.
In addition to the conviviality of the day, the event also served to recognise the work of some of the people and institutions that make this sport so great. Thus, plaques were awarded to the most veteran hikers, Trinidad Pedrosa Ortega and Salvador Ruiz Caña; to the club that comes furthest from Andalusia, CT Camaleón from Cádiz; to the club with the most members, Grupo Prisma from Málaga as well as to entities that organise or collaborate with this meeting such as the Town Council of Cantoria, the Diputación de Almería, the Federación Andaluza de Deportes de Montaña, Escalada y Senderismo, the Club Senderos Almanzora and the company Cosentino.

The mayoress of Cantoria, Puri Sánchez, thanked «the high number of participants who have attended this event in our municipality, which is a showcase to make us known and to highlight the value of the hiking routes of high natural value that we have. The important thing has not only been the number but also the quality of the people with whom we have been able to live these days, not only hikers but also many volunteers and technicians of the CD Senderos Almanzora as well as staff of the Cosentino factory who have made this meeting possible and to whom I thank publicly for their selfless effort.
