The best freestylers in Spain come together in Cartagena for the Federation CupThe Nuevo Teatro Circo has been the venue chosen to host the celebration, on Saturday 25 March, the Federation Cup and the Play Offs of promotion to the Freestyle Master Series (FMS), organized by the Department of Youth of the City of Cartagena, through the UrbanCT program with Urban Rooster.

In the first, the Federation Cup, which will take place at 16.00 hours, the final classification of the promotion league will be decided among the 16 participants. In it, two of the competitors will be promoted directly and two others will compete in the second Play Offs event at 22.00 against two of the FMS relegates, who on this occasion are Sara Socas and Tirda.

«This is the professional freestyle improv league. Both events are free until full capacity is reached and will be held on Saturday at the Nuevo Teatro Circo and are part of the UrbanCT programme of culture and urban sports activities. This modality, along with Breaking, with the championship held in January with the Federation of Sports Dances, are some of the events that put Cartagena on the map of Hip Hop,» said the Councillor for Youth, David Martinez Noguera.

For these two events, UrbanCT also has the collaboration of the transport concessionaire, Alsa, which will be responsible for facilitating the transfer of participants.

The mayor has advanced that in 2023, «Cartagena will once again be the official venue for the National BeatBox Championship and we will hold a Dijing competition at national level. Good news also for graffiti and street art lovers, as it will be complemented with activities in all the fundamental elements of this culture».

The Freestyle Master Series, commonly known as FMS, is a professional freestyle improvisation league that pits 12 Freestylers from the same country against each other, who then compete in an International edition. At the end of each season, the Freestyler with the highest score is crowned champion, while those with the lowest scores are demoted and replaced by others. The replacements compete in a lower category called Battle of the Masters and it is the final of this category and the play offs that decide the changes at the end of each season.

Driven by the rise of freestyle improvisation and the emergence of many competitions in Spanish-speaking countries in the 2010s, The Urban Roosters created a ranking system for competitors much like other sports rankings.

In an attempt to professionalise this discipline, the ranking allows the achievements of the «roosters/MCs» to be quantified and an order of performance to be established between them, based on the results of the various freestyle competitions in Spain, and a professional league was established so that they could compete in a «free-for-all» throughout the season.
