Carmen Belén López has informed the Mayor of Tijoleño of the Junta’s action on this road, which handles more than 5,000 vehicles a day.

The Territorial Delegation of Development, Territorial Coordination and Housing has begun drafting the project to improve road safety on the A-334 road, which connects Baza with Huércal Overa, as it passes through Tíjola. This was communicated by the regional delegate, Carmen Belén López, to the mayor of the municipality, José Juan Martínez, during a working meeting held in the Tíjola Town Hall.

The section between kilometre points 40+500 and 42+200 of the A-334 road, within the municipality of Tíjola, included in the Basic Network of Articulation of the Junta de Andalucía, is a conventional road with a peri-urban character. This road directly connects the towns of Serón, Tíjola and Armuña del Almanzora, although the latter two are more closely linked.

Carmen Belén López pointed out that the increase in traffic in recent years, linked to the development of the municipality of Tíjola, «has led to the need to improve the main accesses and their safety conditions».

In accordance with the Plan de Aforos de la Junta de Andalucía corresponding to the year 2021, the Average Daily Intensity (ADI) of the section amounts to 5,090 vehicles per day, with a percentage of heavy vehicles of 4 %.

Likewise, the delegate indicated, «the development of the Tíjola Industrial Estate without a specific access has been an incentive for immediate action to be taken to guarantee road safety and adequate accessibility to the municipality».

The project has a budget of 59,755 euros.

The access intersection to Tíjola, next to the Industrial Estate, has central waiting lanes and is where a large part of the access traffic to the municipality converges with long-distance and inter-urban traffic. On the opposite side of the road is the Guardia Civil Barracks in Tíjola and the Waste Water Treatment Plant, as well as a group of houses that require a connection to the municipality.

«In view of this situation, the Territorial Delegation has promoted the drafting of a new road safety improvement project that will improve these connections, avoiding left turns by means of a new structure that will channel them at a different level and by rearranging existing nearby accesses by connecting them to service roads,» said the delegate for Development, Territorial Development and Housing.

The project will have a budget of 59,755 euros and a total drafting period of 4 months, which will be published in the coming weeks for tender.
