The deputy for Public Works, Antonio J. Rodríguez, accompanied by the mayor of Líjar, Sergio Sánchez, and the deputy mayor of the town, María Dolores Hernández, and by technicians from the Institution, has checked the state of progress of the work to widen the bridge in the southern part of the municipality to two lanes, an infrastructure with high vehicle traffic.
The project, called ‘Rehabilitation of the road surface on CP AL-5100 from the A-349 in Tahal to the A-1100 in Albanchez via Alcudia de Monteagud and Líjar’, has consisted of widening the road at the Río Líjar bridge from a total width of 5.10 metres to the current 9.20 metres with two lanes of 3 metres each for the simultaneous circulation of vehicles in both directions.
In addition to the widening of the lanes, a reinforced concrete vault has been built over the existing arch under the deck to support the main weight of the elements implemented after the works.

The platform rests on the existing masonry walls. The lanes have no hard shoulder, but the bridge has a pedestrian walkway made of non-slip acrylic paving with a width of 1.20 metres. The bridge has been completed with signalling, beaconing and defences, as required by current regulations.
As for the defences, a metal guardrail has been installed on both sides of the roadway as a vehicle restraint system, and a 1.30-metre-high galvanised steel guardrail has been installed on the edges of the deck to protect the pedestrian pavement from slopes.
