The Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Tourism, Consumer Affairs, Health and Consumer Affairs, Manuel Padín, attended the opening of the exhibition ‘A sea of centuries. Dale una vuelta a la historia con Playmobil’, which is on display at the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology (ARQUA), and which tells the story through these figures.
The exhibition, aimed mainly at children and families, shows the relationship between the Mediterranean Sea and the different cultures that have inhabited it over the centuries. The director of ARQUA, Rafael Sabio, explained that the exhibition will also serve to reflect on ecological habits that can improve the current relationship between humans and the sea.
The exhibition, which will be on display in the permanent exhibition hall from 4 April to 27 August 2023, is made up of seven scenes or dioramas, distributed throughout the different areas of the hall, which will narrate, in chronological order, the evolution of the Mediterranean Sea and its communities.

The journey begins in prehistoric times and will go through the Phoenician and Roman periods, passing through the Middle Ages and the 19th century, until reaching the present day.
The last dioramas are dedicated to the current situation of our sea. They deal, on the one hand, with the environmental complexity that affects the Mar Menor today. On the other hand, the importance of the protection of the underwater cultural heritage is emphasised through a representation of the boat ‘Mazarrón 2’, so that its legacy can be passed on to future generations.
The non-profit association Encaja has been in charge of designing and creating these spaces. In addition, the exhibition has the symbolic sponsorship of different entities such as the Association of Families of Children with Cancer of the Region of Murcia (AFACMUR), the Association of Parents of Hearing Impaired Children (APANDA), the Association for the comprehensive care of people with Down syndrome of Cartagena and their families (ASIDO), Autism We Are All, the Spanish Association of people affected by intestinal failure and transplantation (NUPA) and the National Organization of the Blind of Spain (ONCE).
