On 4 April, officers from the Huércal Overa Traffic Detachment arrested a lorry driver with a semi-trailer who was driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol content of 1.30 mg/l in exhaled air. While driving, he had caused a traffic accident with no casualties, although he did cause material damage to another vehicle.
After the lorry driver was intercepted by the traffic patrol, he was tested for alcohol, with a result 9 times higher than the maximum limit established for professional drivers, which is 0.15 mg/l. The detainee, who was also driving undocumented, presented a notorious alcoholic symptomatology, which made him unfit to drive and posed a very serious risk to himself and other road users.
The events took place in the municipality of Huércal-Overa at km 566 of the N-340 road. The driver was brought before the courts, who released him on bail the following day.

The consumption of alcohol by drivers, and even more so in this type of vehicle, is one of the main risk factors on the road, as its ingestion has a negative influence on the ability to react, generating high-risk situations.
