The Civil Guard has developed in Mazarrón the operation ‘Sentinel’, aimed at clarifying a brawl between several people that took place in a central street of Puerto de Mazarrón, which has culminated in the arrest of three young people as alleged perpetrators of a crime of injury, as reported by sources of the Benemérita in a statement.
In addition, the investigation has found that the detainees stole personal items from the victims, so they are also attributed to the alleged perpetrators of the crime of robbery with violence and intimidation and burglary, where they were finally located and arrested.
The events took place last Easter Tuesday, when a group of young men intercepted their victims in one of the busiest streets of the town with the aim of committing a robbery with violence and intimidation in the vicinity of a betting parlour.

When they refused to obey the alleged thieves and give them the money they were carrying, the brawl began, which was divided into several phases, and they confronted each other on up to three occasions, using glass bottles which they threw indiscriminately, events which generated a certain amount of social alarm in the town.
The aggressiveness of the fight endangered both the physical integrity of those involved, as well as that of the neighbours who were in the vicinity of the place where the events took place. The incident finally resulted in several injuries, some of them requiring the assistance of the medical services.
Officers from the Benemérita’s Citizen Security Prevention Unit were alerted to the altercation and carried out the first steps in situ. Shortly afterwards, the Civil Guards of the Investigation Area opened the operation to identify the perpetrators and clarify the facts.
Thanks to the cooperation of the public and the investigations carried out, the civil guards found out how the events took place and were able to determine who had initiated the conflict. All of this by means of a detailed visualisation of images and photographic recognition.
As a result of the investigation, three young men were identified who were allegedly behind the crimes under investigation. Shortly afterwards, the Guardia Civil surprised them while they were committing a burglary in a home in Puerto de Mazarrón, so they were arrested ‘in fraganti’ for this crime and they were also instructed as alleged perpetrators of the crimes of robbery with violence and intimidation and injuries.
The detainees, along with the proceedings, have been placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction of Totana.
