The Guardia Civil de la Comandancia de Almería during the operation called «ASKELAN», arrested a person as the perpetrator of four crimes of robbery with violence, theft of use of vehicle and several crimes against road safety committed in different parts of the province of Almería.
Operation «ASKELAN» began in February 2023 when the Guardia Civil became aware of the commission of several robberies, using bladed weapons, in several petrol stations in the province of Almeria, located along the A-92 motorway. The perpetrator uses a previously stolen vehicle to move around and carry out the robberies.
In addition, the Guardia Civil personnel in charge of the investigation are aware that, after committing these acts, the perpetrator goes to one of the nearby towns, where, using the method of pulling, he snatches the handbag of an elderly woman, causing her various injuries as a result of her fall, and even tries to run her over during his escape from the place, with the stolen vehicle. Once outside the scene, the perpetrator manages to extract up to 1200 euros from the woman’s bank account.
The following day, the same perpetrator stole another vehicle in the town of Vícar, which he used to commit another robbery at a petrol station in Níjar, where he also managed to take the proceeds with a knife.
The alleged perpetrator managed to obtain more than 4,000 euros in cash by means of the violence used.
Thanks to the ongoing collaboration between the National Police and the Guardia Civil, the alleged perpetrator was fully identified and his whereabouts were unknown, which is why the collaboration of different police units was requested.
As a result of Operation «ASKELAN», the Guardia Civil of the Almeria Command, after the different investigations carried out and thanks to the close collaboration with the National Police, on 7th March, the perpetrator of the crimes of robbery with violence, theft of use of a vehicle and various offences against road safety was located and arrested.
The detainee, together with the proceedings, is placed at the disposal of the Juzgado de Instrucción, en funciones de guardia, No. 1 de Almería, who orders him to be remanded in custody.
