Stonecutters and Chieftains a duel that marked the future of a village
Macael celebrates the fifth edition of its Historical Recreation which will apply to be declared of Tourist Interest in Andalusia.

The town of Macael has once again paid tribute to all the quarrymen and their families. The fifth edition of the Historical Recreation ‘Stonecutters and Chieftains in the fight for marble’ has ended with the satisfaction and pride of an entire town united around its hallmark, marble.

From now on they will be able to process the application for the Andalusian Tourist Interest Fiesta, as the mayor of the town, Raúl Martínez, assured his neighbours at the closing of the event, which once again this year has attracted thousands of people throughout the weekend.

Macael can boast of being a town proud of its history. Stonecutters and chieftains is already a feeling that brings out the best in the people of this village of the Almanzora, to show the whole world their legacy.

More than seventy volunteers, from Macael, who have worked hard for months to bring the past to life, and who throughout the weekend have taken us back to the beginning of the last century.

They have shown the new generations what it is to be a stonecutter, a muleteer, a cartwright, a stone mason or a marble worker. They have told us the history of Macael, in a fun and entertaining way, and not without festivities, good food and, above all, the teaching that a united people can achieve whatever they set out to do.

This year it was carried out with some novelties, such as the scene of the festivity of San Marcos, the exchange with the Modernist Fair of Cartagena or the music on Saturday night by the Oro Blanco Orchestra, which will surely be repeated next year.

Once again, one of the most exciting moments of the weekend was Saturday night with the stonecutter’s accident. But there has also been much joy, with the day of the Virgen del Rosario, or the speech of the mayor Maximiliano Martinez, announcing that “the quarries belong to the people”.

Until next year, when we will return to the Historical Recreation of Macael. If you don’t know it yet, Macael is waiting for you in May next year. You will not regret it.
