Last Monday, the Guardia Civil of the Region of Murcia carried out operation ‘DASKAS’, in which a criminal group based in the municipalities of Murcia and Torre Pacheco was dismantled, which ran an intensive indoor marijuana cultivation, according to sources from the Benemérita in a statement.
The Benemérita’s Citizen Security Prevention troops have arrested the three members of the criminal group and have carried out two searches in which they have dismantled an indoor greenhouse used for the massive cultivation of marijuana.
The actions began at the beginning of the year when, as part of the services established to prevent and prosecute drug trafficking, the Guardia Civil opened the operation to investigate evidence related to the illicit cultivation of marijuana in a district of the capital of Murcia.
The investigation led the Guardia Civil to a housing estate in Gea y Truyols, in the municipality of Murcia, and to another housing estate in Torre Pacheco. In the first of these, there was a chalet that had been rented and which allegedly housed a marijuana crop. The second was also the location of a villa related to the suspects of the investigated plot.
After establishing the alleged involvement of the three suspects in the illicit cultivation of cannabis and having obtained all the necessary evidence, the Guardia Civil carried out the operational phase of the operation, in which, following judicial authorisation, they carried out the entry and search of the two houses.
In the search of Gea y Truyols, a greenhouse was dismantled, installed inside the house and equipped with sophisticated lighting, ventilation, irrigation and heating devices, which at that moment had more than a hundred cannabis plants in the final stage of production.
In the single-family house in Torre Pacheco, the Civil Guards seized all the elements that make up an indoor greenhouse for the intensive cultivation of cannabis, which is why it is presumed that a second production point was intended to be installed in this house.
In addition to the plantation and the cultivation elements, the civil guards seized a large quantity of marijuana in buds, cash and other effects related to drug trafficking. The searches culminated in the arrest of the three suspects as alleged perpetrators of the crimes of belonging to a criminal group, against public health – for cultivation or preparation of drugs -, fraud of electricity and usurpation of civil status.
During the investigation, the Guardia Civil found that the members of the criminal group now dismantled used documentation of Greek and Italian citizens for the rental of the properties, usurping their identity in order to make it difficult to identify them in the event of possible investigations, according to the same sources.
The Benemérita also found that the detainees took turns to guard and care for the indoor plantation. They remained inside the house at all times. They only left when their relief arrived.
Then, the one who finished the task of care and surveillance was transferred to the house in Torre Pacheco, where he lived together with the other member of the group, who maintained a very discreet way of life.
THE LEADER OF THE CRIMINAL GROUP HAS BEEN IMPRISONED.
The detainees, the drugs seized, the effects seized and the proceedings have been handed over to the Murcia Magistrates’ Court, which has ordered the imprisonment of the leader of the dismantled criminal group.
Operation ‘DASKAS’ is the fourth investigation carried out by the Guardia Civil to combat the illicit cultivation of marijuana in the region. In addition to this operation, since the end of April, the Guardia Civil has completed operations ‘LAZYS’ in Fuente Alamo, ‘TABLAJERA’ in Las Torres de Cotillas, ‘ROOSTERFOOR’ in Cartagena, ‘ESPANTO’ in San Javier and ‘GREENBROS’ in Abarán and Blanca.
In the five operations, the Guardia Civil has arrested 22 people and has carried out the entry and search of nine properties in which they have dismantled eight indoor greenhouses. In total, around 3,000 marijuana plants have been seized and more than 3,200 grams of this substance in buds have been seized.
