This Thursday is the deadline for applying for postal votes

Until 18 May you can apply to vote by post online at or in person at any post office.

Tomorrow, Thursday 18 May, is the deadline for applying to vote by post for the regional and municipal elections to be held on 28 May 2023.

Applying to vote by post: online or at a branch office

Voters who decide to vote by post in the autonomous community and municipal elections may request a certificate of registration in the Electoral Census until 18 May (inclusive). Obtaining this certificate is an essential requirement to be able to cast a postal vote and can be requested telematically via the website or at any Correos office in Spain, during normal opening hours.

Applying to vote by postal vote telematically

Voters can request their vote via the Correos website (, without having to go to a post office in person. In this application form, which avoids having to travel to a post office, the interested parties must prove their identity by means of an electronic signature, with certificates for natural persons recognised by the Ministry of Industry and the electronic ID card (DNI-e) being accepted as valid identification systems.

Application to vote in offices

Postal voting applications may be made at any post office in Spain.

This request must be made in person by each voter, except in the case of illness or disability – accredited by official medical certification – that prevents the voter from making the request in person. In this case, it may be presented on behalf of the voter by another person authorised by notary or consular authority.

At the time of making the request, the interested parties must prove their identity by presenting the post office employee with the original National Identity Card, Passport or driving licence.

Once the electoral documentation has been received, the vote can be cast at any Correos post office, during normal opening hours, until 24 May.

Correos is providing all the technological, logistical and human resources necessary to guarantee the fulfilment of the commitments entrusted to it in the electoral processes. A total of 2,500 reinforcement contracts have been made, both to speed up service in offices and for the distribution of mail and the necessary tasks in logistics centres.
