The third drought decree provides for an increase for the livestock sector affected by water shortages.

The territorial delegate of the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development, Antonio Mena, has visited a goat farming enclave in María, which has applied for aid for investments and expenses to reduce and prevent the consequences that the drought situation can have on farms in Andalusia. During the tour of this facility, he was accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of María Town Council, Francisco Martínez Reina, and the Councillor for Agriculture, Pedro Basileo Benavente.

These subsidies are regulated by the Order of 28 September 2022, which approves the regulatory bases for the granting of subsidies, on a competitive basis, aimed at investments in preventive measures to reduce the consequences of natural disasters, climatic adversities and probable catastrophes, within the framework of the Andalusia Rural Programme 2014-2022. Through these actions defined in operation 5.1.1, investments and expenses necessary to reduce and prevent the consequences that drought situations may cause in Andalusia’s agricultural holdings, and specifically in livestock holdings, are promoted.

The amount of action for this goat farm has been 18,090 euros, being invested in a water tank of more than 30,000 litres, a dragged tank for transporting water with a capacity of 11,000 litres, a watering tank installation and a metal trough on legs, with a length of 3 metres.

During the visit, Mena explained the main new features of the third drought decree, approved by the Governing Council, related to the livestock sector. Specifically, he referred to the increase in the budget for the line earmarked for livestock watering troughs, included in the decree.

The aim of this aid is to approve the regulatory bases for granting aid on a non-competitive basis, with the aim of supporting production units and thus alleviating the difficulties that these farms may suffer, due to a drought situation in certain agricultural districts in the Autonomous Community.
