Cosentino, the multinational based in Cantoria, is organising “Environment Month” over the next few weeks. A comprehensive campaign that, from the internal and local level, seeks to act as a corporate citizen to raise awareness about caring for the planet and natural resources, with global ambition and external impact. This year, the actions promoted by the company will be mainly associated with the UN’s international campaign #BeatPlasticPollution, which aims to reduce the volume of plastics reaching the oceans and shift towards a circular economy.
The celebration of “Environment Month” is part of the global internal corporate campaign “Care for the Planet”, which acts as a permanent framework for all Cosentino’s sustainability axes, initiatives and projects. Understanding that the first drivers of change are its own employees, the company has planned various internal and external activities that serve to generate a positive impact on their immediate environment, and thus contribute to accelerating the transformation towards a circular economy.
This month’s agenda kicked off on Monday 5th, World Environment Day, with an intense programme with epicentres both at the Cantoria headquarters and at Cosentino NorthAmerica’s corporate offices in Miami. In Cantoria, Cosentino’s auditorium hosted the presentation of both the general agenda for the coming weeks and the company’s recent sustainability report, one of the most advanced ESG reports. This moment also served to bid farewell to Antonio Urdiales as Environmental Director, who was thanked for his enormous work in building the sustainability area over the last few years. After this, the photographer Carlos de Paz explained his project Océano Plástico (Plastic Ocean), a book of underwater photographs, with poems by Fernando Beltrán, which through images and words denounces the pollution of the seas.
Finally, the day concluded with a talk by Nicola Cerantola, founder and director of Ecologing, and professor and lecturer in Ecodesign and Circular Economy. Cerantola addressed the latest trends in applied circularity, and presented his Ecocanvas approach, which seeks to connect sustainable design with the design of profitable and resilient businesses. Cosentino’s headquarters in Coral Gables (Miami) also organised a talk on climate change with Dr. Pablo Méndez-Lázaro, member of the Puerto Rico Climate Change Council and co-investigator on a NASA project. All these sessions were broadcast via streaming for all Cosentino employees worldwide.
Plogging/Waste collection and C Market
In the spirit of mobilisation, the company is launching a call to all its employees in the coming weeks so that, as far as possible, they can go and collect waste in any nearby natural area (forests, rivers, beaches…). A collection “battalion” that will be shared on social networks to raise awareness. This campaign will reach its climax on 10 June in Miami, and on 17 June in El Toyo (Almeria) with plogging and family waste collection days for all employees who wish to sign up.
Likewise, to promote proximity, the company will organise from 21 June a new edition of C Market, a street market set up at the entrance to its headquarters in Cantoria, to give space to local suppliers with local and Km 0 products.
Internal actions
The whole month will be full of various internal initiatives to inform the entire Cosentino workforce of the investments and progress made in sustainability. In this regard, the “virtual coffees” with Management this week, focused on the company’s reports and commitments, or the Sustainability Tour on 22 June, which will include an in-person and virtual tour (for workers located in other countries) of the Cantoria Industrial Park. The guided tour will focus on the main environmental projects that Cosentino is currently developing, such as the second phase of the photovoltaic installation for self-consumption, or the wastewater reclamation plant (ERAR).
Competitions, prizes, distribution of ecological products and materials, or posters and actions in Cosentino Cities around the world, will complete the Environment Month initiative, which will also be accompanied in parallel with an intense agenda of new content and videos on Cosentino’s main social media profiles.
