Manuel Martínez Domene has been sworn in as Mayor of Serón after the absolute majority obtained with the support of 56.82% of the votes on 28 May. The results show that «each council seat, of the six obtained by the socialist party, costs 139 votes, while each council seat obtained by the popular party costs 121 votes», as he recalled in an investiture speech in which he did not overlook the aggressiveness of the opposition’s campaign since his entry into government a year before the elections. «The legality of the process of electing a mayor, perfectly regulated by law, was questioned before the citizens of Serón and in some of the media. Days after my investiture, the same legal process was used in the change of mayor in the city of Almería, and nobody questioned it or commented on it.
With the endorsement of the votes, the mayor of Serón has addressed his neighbours reminding them that «we are a free people, an independent people, without ties and absent of complexes, therefore the defence of the public and the value of public services, will be part of the DNA of this government and we will defend it to the end.
Participation in the public life of Seronans will be one of the guiding principles of this government’s policy. We will work hard to motivate and involve citizens in the decisions that affect them», he explained.
For the councillor, «the collective interest and ensuring a positive and pleasant coexistence will be our roadmap», highlighting specific actions in active participation, the creation of specific spaces for participation, services for the elderly and people in situations of dependency, and the implementation of the first local mental health plan.
Domene has announced measures such as free childcare and gift vouchers for newborns. Incentives for culture, cultural entrepreneurship and education, making local and local artists visible with individual and collective exhibitions in exhibition spaces in Serón.
Likewise, he is especially committed to advancing equal opportunities between men and women, guaranteeing that Serón will not take a single step backwards in the fight against gender violence and sexist violence.
As a preview of the main infrastructure actions, the Mayor of Serón announced the construction of public housing, the refurbishment of ADIF housing at the station for social renting and the subsidised renting of housing for young people.
He has also shown his commitment to the provision of new public car parks, the construction of the music school and the comprehensive rehabilitation of the urbanisation of the San Miguel neighbourhood. Martínez Dome did not forget in his speech the need to build a new water treatment plant, the connection to the sewage network of the neighbourhoods or the extension of the Los Zoilos and Pedro Levita bridges to allow safe pedestrian access. In this sense, he has asked for loyalty to the provincial and regional administrations for the works that are already approved and granted, but constantly delayed, as he asks the Serón opposition to be open-minded so that they work for the people and their interests and not against them. «We have to raise Serón to the list of the most beautiful municipalities in Spain and this is the task of all of us, we simply have to believe in it,» says Manuel Martínez Domene, the elected mayor of Serón.
