Cartagena completes work to prevent flood cuts on the road between Molinos Marfagones and Los Dolores

Work on the road linking Molinos Marfagones with Los Dolores
– CARTAGENA CITY COUNCIL

The work to avoid flood cuts on the road linking Molinos Marfagones and Los Dolores is nearing completion. Cartagena City Council has taken action on the section of the road along which the Benipila wadi runs to raise the road so that vehicles can circulate during episodes of rain.

The councillor for Infrastructures, Diego Ortega, explained that «the City Council is making an effort to improve the infrastructures of the municipality to lessen the consequences of episodes of rain both in urban streets and roads with the aim of facilitating the mobility of all Cartagena residents». In fact, the renovation of the Juan XXIII square and its surrounding roads, which also improves the rainwater network, has already been completed.

The work consisted of reconstructing the road, placing large prefabricated concrete frames underneath it to allow water to flow through when there is torrential rain. In the absence of the finishing touches, this area near the Astus day centre will be reopened to road traffic in the next few days, probably before July. The work carried out on this road is very similar to that carried out by the Autonomous Community on the Los Nietos road as it passes through the La Carrasquilla watercourse.

IMPROVEMENTS IN EL ALGAR AND LA PALMA
In the eastern part of the municipality, work is also being carried out to renovate the hydraulic networks and to replace the affected urban services in the area around the Casa Rubio in El Algar. The work is 25% complete and is expected to be finished after the summer. Workers are currently working on demolition work on the pavement in order to introduce the new pipes.

In La Palma, similar work is scheduled to begin next week. They will consist of the creation of a new rainwater network in Plaza Manuel Zamora and its surrounding streets. These improvements are scheduled to take four months to complete.

BORRICÉN AND CAMPILLO DE ADENTRO
On the other hand, the Cartagena City Council will soon begin more improvements related to the sewage network in Borricén, next to Alumbres. The water supply and sewerage networks in Calle Poeta Miguel Hernández in Ciudad Jardín and Calle Recoletos in the San Antón neighbourhood will also be renovated.

Meanwhile, in Campillo de Adentro, work will soon begin on the construction of a reservoir to supply drinking water to this town in the western part of Cartagena.
