San Javier opens “the largest publicly managed Fitness Centre in the Region of Murcia”.

The new centre, with a 450-metre weight room and state-of-the-art equipment, is located within the grounds of the municipal sports centre.

The Municipal Sports Centre of San Javier has from yesterday “the largest Sports Fitness Centre in the Region of public management”, said the Councillor for Sports, Sergio Martinez during the inauguration of the building that opened its doors in a ceremony that was attended by a wide representation of the municipal sports world. The Mayor, José Miguel Luengo and the Director General of Sports, Francisco Sánchez, accompanied by the Councillor Sergio Martínez and the Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Jesús García Pallarés, inaugurated the new Centre which was presented at full capacity, as it will open its doors to the public from the 3rd of July.

The Fitness Centre, built within the grounds of the Municipal Sports Centre of San Javier, has four rooms and a terrace, which will further expand the municipal sports offer, said the mayor of Sports, Sergio Martinez. The Centre has a 450 square metre weight room equipped with top-of-the-range machinery, divided into five areas. The room offers a cardio area with 18 machines with connectivity, TV, internet and remote control for use during training and maintenance. Another area with bilateral and dual pulley machines. An area of plate machines, a free weights area, and a group workout area, a novelty, which will allow group classes to be offered within the room itself. The ground floor is completed with two large male and female changing rooms, an automated access control and a multi-service kiosk that will allow users to make reservations for the activities on offer, among other things.

Upstairs, the sports complex offers a 160 square metre fitness room dedicated to low intensity work, another 120 metre fitness room dedicated to high intensity, an 80 square metre terrace, which has been prepared for outdoor activities and a state-of-the-art Indoor Cycle room. The spinning room has 23 bicycles, ambient lighting with colour changes, two 85-inch screens and a gamification programme as an added attraction.

Sergio Martínez recalled the difficulties that this new infrastructure has entailed, which has gone through the paralysis of the pandemic and the subsequent lack of supplies, and even the abandonment of the work by the first company awarded the contract, in addition to the inflation caused by the war. Martínez recalled the previous sports councillors and thanked the entire team that “has finally made it possible for a new stage to begin today for this facility and for us to provide a better service to the public”.

Mayor José Miguel Luengo highlighted the symbolic fact of starting the new legislature with this sports inauguration and pledged to continue investing in sport “because it is an investment in health and improving the quality of life of families and all residents”. The mayor announced other sports infrastructures that are underway in the municipality, such as the forthcoming construction of the large sports park in La Manga del Mar Menor, which includes a complex of outdoor facilities, next to the Estacio canal. He also announced that by the end of the summer another new infrastructure will be ready, the stands and changing rooms, which will improve the conditions of use of the football field in Santiago de la Ribera, which also serves the Faculty of Sports Sciences.

The Director General of Sports, Francisco Sánchez, who praised the inaugurated facilities, also announced other investments in sports in the municipality, such as the refurbishment of the athletics track, which already has 300,000 euros, and the construction of a sports pavilion at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, which has a budget of 1.2 million euros and will serve both the Faculty and the local population.
