The Regional Library (BRMU) is once again activating its campaign ‘A summer of books’, in which its fleet of bookmobiles visits coastal enclaves of the Community during the months of July and August.
This campaign, which starts next Monday, the 3rd, brings literature and culture in general to both residents and summer visitors to these areas, facilitating the loan of books and audiovisual material, both in physical and digital format.
The 2023 campaign will take the bookmobiles to Calabardina (Águilas), Santiago de la Ribera (San Javier), Los Narejos (Los Alcázares), Los Nietos (Cartagena), Lo Pagán (San Pedro del Pinatar) and Los Urrutias (Cartagena).
The bibliobuses will be open from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm and the calendar of days with the stops in each town can be consulted on the Regional Library’s website.
The bookmobiles provide users with more than 60,000 volumes from the physical collection, as well as all kinds of information about the electronic platforms provided by the Regional Library: eBiblio, for the loan of books, newspapers and magazines, and eFilm, for the loan of audiovisual material.
In order to facilitate the use of the service for occasional visitors and tourists, it is not necessary to be a member of the BRMU to access the loan service. It is sufficient to present your ID card or any other document proving your identity. The material on loan can be returned during the following visits of the bibliobus or at the BRMU, either physically or by post. During the summer campaigns, around 5,000 physical loans are made, which means more than a hundred a day.
The project ‘A summer of books’ was launched in 1998, when new bookmobile routes were created with the aim of bringing book lending closer to holidaymakers and residents in areas that experience an increase in population in July and August. Since then, it has continued uninterruptedly with the exception of the two years of the health crisis.
