Successful 27th edition of the Serón Ham Fair

The XXVII Edition of the Serón Ham Fair once again met the expectations of public attendance, with the presence of hundreds of people who, once again this year, did not hesitate to attend this promotional celebration. The Mayor of the town, Manuel Martínez Domene, on behalf of the Town Council and Manuel Checa, as vice-president of the Association of Meat Businessmen, thanked the massive welcome and the excellent day of coexistence to all the attendees.

Hundreds of people came once again this year to taste the meat products produced in Serón.

From the early hours of the morning, visitors were seen in the town who gradually approached the tasting of agri-food products produced in Serón with ham as the protagonist. Institutional and business representatives accompanied the meat products, the people of Serón and those in charge of the town council at the annual event, which is always well attended.

On Friday night, the 13th National Ham Cutters Competition took place, which counts towards this year’s national championship. In this edition, Abrahan Cambres from Murcia was the winner; second place went to Iván Gómez Otero from Toledo and third place to Javier Campos Grande from Cuenca.

Murcia’s Abrahan Cambres won the XIII National Ham Cutters Competition on Friday, securing a place in this year’s national championship.

Cambres also won the award for the most creative dish according to the professional jury. On this occasion, both the Murcian and the Cuenca-born chef managed to plate 100 grams of ham exactly; a weight that also counted for the jury.

Mastery, dexterity, cleanliness in the cut, greater yield in the ham and the time taken to cut it completely, are some of the aspects scored by the professionals and members of the jury attending the contest; which on this occasion was formed by the champion of Spain in 2016 and Master cutter, Pablo Martínez and the excellent cutters, Joaquín Rabanera and Cai Martínez.

On Saturday night the marquees welcomed the public from all over Spain, many of them travelling in buses, in groups of friends or in couples who gradually filled the space of the Plaza Nueva and the surrounding area. The tents housed each of the local companies that participated in this edition, Jamones Checa, Jamones Segura, Embutidos Los Remedios, Embutidos Peña-Cruz, Seronés Artesano, Bodega de Serón, Aceite La Zalea, Miel de Serón, Patatas fritas sabores de Serón and Huevos Camperos de Serón; the latter with a large repertoire of dishes made with eggs that delighted the attendees.

Rock lovers and enthusiasts also had the opportunity to enjoy a new edition of Jamón Rock; a very popular show, which, like the street party in the square, managed to attract a large audience until the early hours of the morning.
