Olula del rio: the transformation of Cuesta Canela into a boulevard and the complete improvement of Obispo Ródena are approved.

The action, financed by Provincial Plans, involves an investment of 682,000 euros.

The Provincial Council of Almeria has approved the contracting dossier for a project that will transform the urban environment of Olula del Rio. This is an action that will be carried out under the Provincial Plans under the title of ‘Boulevard and Improvement in Urban Environment’ and also has a base bidding budget of 682,100 euros.

Specifically, this action will respond to the municipal demand for the construction of a boulevard in Calle Cuesta Canela with the consequent improvements to provide traffic flow and safety and the remodelling of two sections of Calle Obispo Ródenas including the renovation of the supply and drainage networks.

The project consists of two different actions:

  • Boulevard in Calle Cuesta Canela: The aim is to create a boulevard with a two-way carriageway for motor vehicles, a pavement for pedestrians along the concrete wall of the channeling of the Almanzora River as it passes through Olula del Rio and a cycle lane. In addition, a roundabout type intersection will be built at the junction of C/Cuesta Canela with Camino de la Noria – C/La Hoya adding an access branch from the south. In addition, rainwater collection will be carried out by means of a well-drainage system. Finally, a drip irrigation network connected to the supply network will be installed to irrigate the planned plantations.
  • C/Obispo Rodenas where a remodelling of the street is being considered, modifying its current configuration and planning new flights of stairs adapted to current accessibility regulations. These sections will be provided with new paving, and the current drainage and supply network will be replaced, with new drainage and supply connections. This will considerably improve their general aesthetic appearance and functionality. In addition, stainless steel handrails will be installed in the sections where they do not exist, thus facilitating pedestrian traffic and preventing falls between elements located at different levels in compliance with current accessibility regulations.

Antonio J. Rodríguez has assured that this work, which is being carried out thanks to the collaboration between administrations, will mean the transformation of an important part of this municipality and will have a positive impact on safety and road traffic.
