Purchena Town Council presents the first Nita Carmona Mixed football tournament

It will take place on Thursday 13 July at 19:00.

The Purchena Town Council yesterday presented the first mixed football tournament Nita Carmona Ciudad de Purchena which will take place next Thursday 13th July from 19.00 hours on the local football pitch, as a prelude and part of the cultural and sporting programme of the fiestas in honour of the patron saint, the Virgen del Carmen.

The sporting event has four categories: baby, children, youth and adult with compulsory mixed teams. Participants can register in groups of at least six people at the Purchena Town Hall (950423009 or by phone 657109140) until 12 July at 12.00 noon, or also individually and it will be the organisation who will make the age groups.

The Nita Carmona trophy is part of the project La Conciliación en Juego, subsidised by the Consejería de Inclusión Social, Juventud, Familias e Igualdad de la Junta de Andalucía through the Plan Corresponsables especially aimed at men, which has the following main objectives, Raising awareness of the inequality that persists in terms of work-life balance and co-responsibility in terms of hours spent caring for people and domestic chores, and through an in-depth study of both concepts, including not only the time devoted by men and women to caring for people from a gender perspective and its transcendental importance in all aspects of people’s lives, but also the time that both sexes have for leisure and free time, with a special focus on sport and, specifically, on football. Whether from the point of view of playing sport or as spectators. It includes the analysis with a gender perspective of the whole world of football, from presence, representativeness, salaries, wages, visitors, number of professional women and men, number of women and men who play football, number of women’s and men’s teams, number of boys and girls who play football, when and why girls stop playing football.

The project concludes next Thursday 13 July in Purchena with the championship in honour of Ana Carmona Ruíz, better known as Nita Carmona, a pioneer in Spanish football from Malaga who was reprisalised for it, which is a tribute to her figure and the rescue from oblivion of one of the names that has made football history. Veleta was the nickname of this football pioneer, discovered by the sports journalist Jesús Hurtado who, after a thorough investigation, brought to light that Veleta was in fact a woman, who disguised herself as a man in order to compete and who was harassed, mistreated and humiliated when she was discovered.

The First Nita Carmona Trophy Ciudad de Purchena will have a Purple Point thanks to the collaboration of the Andalusian Institute for Women in Almeria.
