“The neighbourhood opposition to the construction of the 400 kv overhead transmission line with towers over 80 metres high through virgin territory, such as the Sierra de las Estancias, is growing every day and will be demonstrated in events such as this one. With this event we have already held a total of 5 events, as well as a large tractor rally, a rally at the Santuario del Saliente, and we have collected some 7000 signatures over the last two years”, say the platform Salvemos la Sierra de las Estancias.
This past Saturday, July 8th, the collective organised a day of coexistence in the village of Las Cerricos to explain to the neighbours the progress made in the fight against the current route of the 400kv line, “which will literally cross and kill the countryside in the north of Almeria”, they say. A bar, a paella, and several musical performances, including the Velez Rubio band, served as a context for the reading of a manifesto by Julia Garcia, spokesperson for the platform. The Town Hall of Oria collaborated with the infrastructure of the event. Numerous neighbours from Oria, Chirivel, Taberno, Vélez Rubio, the area of Las Pocicas and El Saliente in Albox, as well as the Cerriqueños themselves, attended a new day of neighbourly coexistence.
Numerous neighbours and representatives of the affected municipalities were present at the reading of the manifesto.
