The stands and changing rooms at the Santiago de la Ribera football pitch will be ready for use in September.

The San Javier Town Hall is investing nearly 400,000 euros in a 400-seat grandstand, with showers and changing rooms for the use of both the Faculty of Sport and the local residents, and in particular the Riber Club of Santiago de la Ribera.

The stands and changing rooms at the Santiago de la Ribera football ground will be ready for use from next September, the Mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, announced today during a visit to the works accompanied by the Councillor for Sports, Sergio Martínez. “The works are progressing at a very good pace so they will be finished this summer so that next academic year both the students of the Faculty and the Riber, the team from Santiago de la Ribera will be able to make use of its facilities”.

The works, which have involved an investment of around 400,000 euros by the San Javier City Council, consist of a shaded grandstand with a capacity of around 400 seats. Under the stands there are two separate areas for showers and changing rooms for the home and away teams, and a central access corridor to the pitch, with facilities for the referees. José Miguel Luengo underlined the municipal investment “which shows the Town Hall’s continued commitment to sport and physical activity, and of course to the Faculty and to football in Santiago de la Ribera who use the facilities”.

The mayor of San Javier highlighted the speed at which the development of the sports complex is taking place, which began with the football pitch, inaugurated in 2021, now the stands and changing rooms “which improve the quality of sports practice”, and now a final phase with the pavilions to be built on the remaining plot of land next to the Faculty of Sports Sciences, through an agreement between the City Council, the Autonomous Community and the University of Murcia.

In this sense, the dean of the Faculty, Jesús García Pallarés, announced that just this morning a new meeting was held at the Faculty to monitor the agreements for the construction of the new facility consisting of a triple pavilion with training rooms and laboratories among other facilities that will allow the Faculty to continue with the expansion it is undergoing. “We already have the preliminary project and we hope to be laying the first stone of the pavilion at the beginning of 2024”.
