Among other things, “Francisco Torrecillas has left last year’s fair, the Three Kings’ parade, its lighting, payroll and numerous works unpaid”.
This has been revealed by the local government team, just over a month after the new authorities took over responsibility for municipal management. According to the municipal accounts, the council has 234,356 euros in liquid funds and more than 2.6 million euros in unaccounted invoices are pending payment, not counting payroll, social security and withholdings worth 600,000 euros.
“The residents of the municipality deserve to know what the real situation of the municipal coffers is,” says the mayoress of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso, who since taking office, “we are working to put order and to know the economic and financial situation of our town hall. A reality that has nothing to do with what Francisco Torrecillas has defended during his mandate”.
And the fact is that among the many unpaid bills are the 2022 All Saints’ Fair, the Three Kings’ Parade, the Christmas lights and many other events and works that will soon be made public. “The reality is that the accounts of Mr. Torrecillas, the ones he makes public on his networks, are unreal data and fictitious figures, the result of his irresponsibility as a manager, failing to meet the deadlines for payment to suppliers, with expenses without budgetary items, unapproved and unaccounted invoices, compromising the local finances with the risk to the economic and financial stability of the people of Alboja”.
Despite the economic situation revealed by the audit of accounts that are under scrutiny, the mayoress wanted to send a “message of calm to all suppliers. We inherited a lousy management from the previous mayor, but our way of working is different, and we will be solving all the problems. We are working tirelessly to put things in order and, based on transparency and complying with the law, we will move forward, let there be no doubt in anyone’s mind”.
This is just a rough outline of the situation, but the figures have been under suspicion for years. Now, the new government team is trying to find out how the previous corporation has managed public money. It seems that under an apparent transparent administration, a “disastrous administration” is hidden.
It is also hinted that “surprises” may continue to appear and this will be duly reported to the neighbours when the time comes and the municipal accounts are put in order.
