The 24 hours return to the Plaza San Francisco in Albox

The ‘Memorial Juan González’ will bring the Barrio de la Loma to life this weekend with one of the most eagerly awaited sporting events of the year.

Fourteen teams in the senior category and nearly three hundred boys and girls in the lower divisions will compete this weekend in the 24 hours of indoor football in Albox. A competition that after six years will return to the Plaza San Francisco.

The huge stands already occupy the heart of the Barrio de La Loma, where during this weekend hundreds of people are expected to congregate to enjoy one of the most special competitions held in the town.

At the same time, as has been the tradition, the 3×3 Basketball Tournament will be held on the court next to the stands.

A celebration of sport that will fill the town with life this Friday and Saturday, and which will pay tribute to Juan González from Alboja. His own son will attend on Saturday and his granddaughter is already competing these days in the preliminary phase of lower categories.

There will be medals and trophies for all and 1,400 euros in cash prizes; Trophy for the best Goalkeeper Miguel Jiménez and Trophy Best Player Diego Capel. The sports department is committed to restoring the importance that the 24 hours of futsal in Alboja had lost in recent times.

“The 24 hours of indoor football are from the Plaza San Francisco, nobody wanted them to be taken out of the neighbourhood of La Loma, and we have responded to a demand from the neighbours. In 2017 they were taken out of the town centre, we promised that we were going to recover traditions, and this is certainly one of them. This event helps our businesses, promotes sport and brings life to the town” assures the mayoress of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso, who together with the sports councillor Martín Martínez Porcel, visited the area around the Plaza San Francisco, where a large number of stands and chairs have been set up so that the public can comfortably enjoy the games throughout the weekend.
