Bathing waters of Andalusian beaches are at adequate quality levels.

The Regional Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs carried out analyses at 376 sampling points in marine and inland waters.

The bathing waters of the Andalusian beaches are within the established quality levels, according to the report prepared by the Regional Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs during the first fortnight of August 2023 on the state of the coastline, which has been carried out since the beginning of the summer bathing season. This study is based on the analyses carried out by the General Directorate of Public Health and Pharmaceutical Regulation.

The Regional Ministry has monitored 352 sampling points in maritime bathing areas -in the 274 maritime bathing areas- and 24 sampling points in continental bathing areas -in the 23 continental bathing areas-. The water samples have been analyzed to determine the different parameters required by the current regulations, such as macroscopic parameters, transparency, color, mineral oils, presence of persistent foam and floating solids, organic remains and any other residue -glass, plastic, rubber, wood-, which may affect the healthiness of the water and is considered to be of sanitary interest.

By provinces, in Almería a total of 90 samplings have been carried out in the 90 census points, which are distributed in 77 bathing areas of 13 municipalities of Almería. For its part, in Cadiz, 85 samplings have been carried out in 77 census points, distributed in 57 bathing areas of 16 municipalities.

In Granada, 40 samplings have been carried out in the 38 census points located in 30 bathing areas in 10 municipalities. In the province of Huelva, 50 samplings have been carried out in 50 census points, distributed in 25 bathing areas of 9 municipalities. Finally, in the province of Malaga, there have been a total of 97 samplings in 97 census points, which are distributed in 85 bathing areas in 14 municipalities.

In the case of inland bathing areas, sampling was carried out in the Cela pond in Lúcar, Almería; in the province of Cádiz in the reservoirs of Arcos de la Frontera and Bornos, as well as in the Arroyomolinos river in Zahara; in the province of Granada, the waters of the reservoirs of Cubillas in Albolote, Bermejales in Arenas del Rey, the Negratín reservoir in Cuevas del Campo, the Toba river in Los Guájares and the Fuencaliente spring in the municipalities of Huéscar and Orce have been analyzed. In the province of Córdoba, the area of the Breña II reservoir in Almodóvar del Río is declared suitable for bathing, while in the Colada dam, in El Viso, bathing is prohibited due to the presence of cyanobacteria species potentially toxic to health. In Jaén, the waters of the Encinarejo reservoir and the Jandula river in Andújar, the Rumblar reservoir in Baños de la Encina, the Guadalquivir river as it passes through Cazorla and Villanueva del Arzobispo, the Borosa river in Santiago-Pontones, the Los Molinos stream in Siles, and the Aguascebas river in Villacarrillo have been analyzed. In the case of the province of Malaga, the waters of the Conde de Guadalorce reservoir in Ardales and the Hedionda spring in Casares were analyzed. Finally, in the province of Seville, the waters of the Ribera del Huéznar in San Nicolás del Puerto have been analyzed.

This report on the sanitary quality of the waters, which indicates their suitability and, where appropriate, informs on recommendations or bans on bathing, will be issued periodically every fifteen days throughout the summer season and will be available for public consultation through the website of the Consejería de Salud y Consumo until the end of the bathing season on September 30.
