Last Friday 25th August, the Association of Environmental and Consumer Communication (ADEAC), the organisation which qualifies and awards the distinctions on the coast in the form of ‘Blue Flags’, issued a communication to the Town Hall of Cuevas del Almanzora. In the communication there is something that was seen coming, the withdrawal of such a distinction to the only beach on the coast of Cuevas del Almanzora that has received a flag this year, the Pozo del Esparto, as denounced by the Popular Party of Cuevas del Almanzora.
The residents have been denouncing this for weeks, especially after the ‘self-promotional photo of the mayor of Cuevas and the mayoress of Tourism, Antonio Fernandez and Juana Haro, respectively, in which they proclaimed the achievement of such a significant distinction. «They did not forget to have their photo taken, but they did forget to fulfil the requirements to deserve it». The municipal group of the Partido Popular in the Town Hall of Cuevas del Almanzora shows its indignation at this neglect, «and what is more serious, taking into account that the main reason is the failure to mark the coastal area, not only as a requirement to get a medal but for the safety of bathers».
The networks show these days «not only the lack of buoyage required to obtain the flag, but also the proximity of boats passing within 100 metres of the shore, mixing with bathers». It is worrying, especially «if after a whole summer displaying an undeserved flag, the reason for not buoying the buoys was economic, as rumours from the affected neighbours suggest».

Debt without budgetary appropriation
The debt that the Town Hall of Cuevas del Almanzora has accumulated without going through the previous administrative filters is not something alien to day to day life. Services are provided without budgetary appropriation. Recently the government team «has taken part of this accumulated debt for an amount of more than 800,000 euros» to be able to deal with services that have been provided over a whole year, leaving many Cuevan suppliers unpaid.
The PP believes that this is the reason for the ‘no beaconing’ of the Pozo del Esparto beach, as they also believe it was the cause of the traffic chaos caused at a recent popular race in Villaricos where Local Police and Guardia Civil suffered the impotence of the ‘non-provision of a towing service’. The usual service was refused for similar reasons to those already reported, as far as the PP municipal group has been able to learn. It was to find another emergency provider to make way in the traffic chaos for a popular race which was affected by the accumulation of parked vehicles which could not be removed from the official route of the race.
The municipal group of the Partido Popular will present a request for information to the Town Hall to find out the real reasons which have led the government team presided over by Antonio Fernández Liria to not comply with the beaconing requirements, thus causing the withdrawal of the blue flag and the insecurity of the bathers of the Pozo del Esparto.
