The Oria neighbourhoods of Barranco de Quiles and Ogarite-El Marchal, which in some areas lack outdoor lighting, will have a new public lighting network thanks to the project that the Governing Board of the Provincial Council of Almeria held this morning has awarded for its implementation.
Thanks to this initiative, both neighbourhoods will have a high quality public lighting network. The works will consist of the installation of LED technology luminaires, with support arm, on 6-metre high wooden supports or on the façade. Conductors will also be installed to provide service to the new lighting points from the existing control panels, among other actions.
The deputy for Development, Infrastructures, Territorial Planning and Water, Antonio J. Rodríguez, highlighted the importance of this type of work because, as he pointed out, “they are the ones that allow us to keep the most basic infrastructures and services that the local councils provide to their residents up to date and modernised. Thanks to these works, two neighbourhoods in Oria will now have good lighting, with all the benefits that this entails for their inhabitants”.
Antonio J. Rodríguez also stressed that “this type of intervention reinforces the role of the Diputación as a town council for town councils and helps us to achieve two of the institution’s most important objectives: to provide equal opportunities for Almeria residents, wherever they live, and to tackle the challenge of depopulation”.
Similarly, the deputy recalled that recently a major investment of more than one million euros was certified through the FEDER Funds – IDAE (80%), Provincial Council (15%) and municipalities (5%) in which nearly 1,500 conventional light points were renewed by LED technology luminaires and improved control systems and control panels with significant savings in the electricity bill.
The Energy Efficiency Plan managed by the Provincial Council aims to renew the lighting system to make it more efficient and cleaner, less polluting and reduce the electricity bill in all municipalities in the province of Almeria.
