A woman surprised a naked burglar in the early hours of the morning when he was stealing from the living room of her house, located in a development at kilometre 6 in La Manga del Mar Menor. At the shouts of the 72-year-old owner of the house, the man fled with the objects he had managed to steal to a nearby beach, where he was later arrested by officers of the Local Police of San Javier.
The incident took place at 4.30 last Thursday, when 112 received a call from a couple of septuagenarians in which they reported that their house had been burgled. The woman said that she got out of bed in the early hours of the morning when she heard noises in the living room of their home. When she entered the room she discovered a naked man with a torch in one hand and some objects in the other. The owner shouted and the unknown man jumped from the balcony of the house, climbed down the façade to the street and went to a nearby beach.
Several local police units responded to the call and, on the basis of information provided by the couple concerned, the officers went to the area where the stranger had gone. When the officers arrived, they observed a man who was naked and shouting at several people. One of the officers asked him what he was doing. “He replied in a jocular and defiant tone, according to sources close to the proceedings.
When it became clear that he was not telling the truth, as his hair and body were dry, he was arrested. During a visual inspection of the area, the officers found two mobile phones, two wallets, a television remote control and a multimedia device in the sand. The owners of the house recognised all the objects as theirs and they were returned to them. For his part, the alleged thief, aged 42, of Spanish nationality and accused of a crime of burglary in an inhabited dwelling and resisting arrest, was taken to the Guardia Civil barracks, but not before stopping by his house to put on a pair of trousers and a T-shirt.
