The extraordinary devices that have been mounted this summer against the consumption of alcohol on public roads have served to prevent the celebration or dissolve about 280 botelleos, according to calculations of the Local Police of Cartagena reported by the mayor, Noelia Arroyo.
This control has been carried out both in the deployment of agents in the usual areas of botelleo as in the dissolution of concentrations of young people. The work was carried out by the Special Operational Group for Citizen Security (GOESC), supported by drones, citizen security patrols and teams of police and motorcyclists. In total, the GOESC carried out a total of 195 services during the summer. The number of reports for alcohol consumption on public roads rose to 132 this summer.
“We pledged to make every effort to prevent this type of gathering from causing another summer of nuisance to residents and more public safety problems. The results achieved by our Local Police have been very positive and this is what we have been told by neighbours in the most affected areas. There is always room for improvement, but we have done an effective job and our officers have organised themselves to prevent concentrations and to react quickly when they have been detected”, said the mayoress.
In total, the Local Police carried out almost 11,000 services, of which almost 1,200 were extraordinary services. This means 753 more than in 2022 in the reinforcement put in place on the beaches, which has had a deployment of 169 municipal police. The Local Police carried out around 90 public safety and traffic controls, with a special focus on the consumption of alcohol and other drugs.
