Long live Rock Albox

Benito Kamelas was in charge of closing the 38th edition of Rock Albox.

The pre-festival concert in Albox brought together more than three hundred people this Saturday night at the municipal fairgrounds.

The old rockers and the not so old, lived a magical night in a festival that has been standing for 38 years, but that little by little has been fading, hence the importance of the call for this edition that served as a reunion of the regulars to this type of festivals that in the Almanzora have a loyal audience.

El Lilo opened at 9pm, the local combo sounded powerful and took on the noble task of warming up the audience. El Alberto at the controls as lead guitar, supported by Pedro El Cabrero – his indefatigable travelling companion – on drums, Javi Masegosa on guitar and Pedro Monteserín introduced old songs and others from their third album “A lo mejor …. lo peor”. The cleanest 4×4 that could be heard all night with the collaboration of the maestro José Jiménez on trumpet.

The baton was taken by “Sin Propina”. The Valencian band wasted their neighbourhood rock under the municipal marquee; Aris is still undoubtedly the voice that reminds us of Transfer but the incorporation and the prominence of Laura in songs like “Ojo por ojo” or “Aquí”, bring a new register to the group, who at times put on the brakes with a nod to hip hop.

The night was closed by Benito Kamelas (Ven y tócamelas), who at this stage of the film have a following of their own. Also from Valencia, the band that formed in the ’90s fleeing from the codfish, turned the venue upside down. With their performance at Rock Albox, they closed their tour to present their latest album “Resiliencia”.

The Rock Albox Fest has reached its turning point. From now on they will work to recover it or leave it to its own fate. It will soon be 40 years old, a stage where the great heroes of the national scene have passed through.

It is not a business, it is a sign of identity. If the idea is for it to continue, it will have to be incorporated as part of the local way of being, to keep alive the spirit of the old rockers who have carried the name of the municipality high at every festival.
