III Edition of Running Via Verde

The Legion strengthens ties with the region with different activities

The Third Edition of the Runnig Vía Verde is the star activity that the Always is Possible Sports Club promotes with the intention of “strengthening ties between The Legion and the civilian population, making the Almanzora valley, its towns and its people known. “, according to the president of the club and who served more than 40 years in the Legion, Federico Sáez.

To strengthen these links, which are very strong in municipalities such as Olula del Río, an ambitious program of activities has been prepared with the collaboration of the Provincial Council and the Town Councils of Olula del Río, Tíjola, Serón and Alcóntar.

The III edition ‘Running Vía Verde’ will take place on November 5, an event included in the official competition calendar of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation.

Prior to the competition, starting today, Thursday, residents of the Almanzora region can visit two photography exhibitions; one in Tíjola titled ‘La Legión Centenario ‘100 años, 100 images’, (La Legión Centenario ‘100 years, 100 images) composed of fifty photographs that represent the Centennial of La Legión during the 100 years of its history and trajectory.

The second exhibition, ‘International Missions of Miguel Temprano’, is made up of fifty photographs that the photojournalist Miguel Temprano has taken during the last international missions in which the Legion has participated: Lebanon, Afghanistan and Mali.

The ‘III Running Vía Verde’ will cover the entire weekend from November 3 to 5, where numerous activities are planned. It begins on Friday with the delivery of bibs at 6:00 p.m. in Olula del Río and continues at 8:00 p.m. with the screening of the documentary ‘La Legión – El Origen and La Legión – El Credo’ in the Olula del Río scenic space.

On Saturday at 4 p.m. the ‘Mini Running Vía Verde’ will be held for the little ones at the Serón station, and from 5 to 7 p.m. bibs will continue to be delivered at that same location.

Sunday the 5th will be the strong day of competition with the 42 kilometer test at 9 in the morning and the 24 kilometers fifteen minutes later, both departing from the San Pablo park in Olula del Río. Then, at 11 a.m., the starting signal will be given to an 8-kilometer route from the Tíjola station (this test will be a recreational sport, since it can be done running, Nordic walking or walking with the family since they will have a two-hour window to arrive).

At the two starts and at the finish line, the attending public will be able to enjoy an exhibition by The Squad of Gastadores and the Legion War Band, as well as a lowering of the flag at the finish line at the end of the events. A whole weekend full of activities for runners and companions starting on Friday with a large runner’s bag, children’s race, blood donation for ‘Adovida’, final meal, raffles, guided tours of the Serón castle and museum and much more.

In addition, the Serón sports hall and parking areas have been set up to sleep on hard ground, set up a tent or bring a motorhome, and showers for anyone who wants to come to this municipality.
