
The best specimens of canaries from all over Spain will meet from 10 to 12 November in the multipurpose hall of the new building of the Almansa Park, in San Javier, on the occasion of the XXIX Ornithological Contest Villa de San Javier organised by the Ornithological Society of San Javier, with the collaboration of the City Council of San Javier.
The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, and the president of the organising association, Germán Tezanos, presented the new edition of the competition today in a ceremony which was also attended by the councillor for Sports, Sergio Martínez, and representatives of the board of directors of the association, one of the oldest in the Region of Murcia.
The competition focuses on the colour and posture of the canary, a species which has 425 varieties in colour and 200 varieties in posture. The judges, who also come from all over Spain, will be assessing the birds in the competition from Friday 10th November, opening the doors to the public on Saturday 11th from 10:00h to 14:00h and from 16:00 to 22:00h. On Sunday 12th it will reopen to the public from 10:00 until 12:30 when the prize-giving ceremony will take place.

Mayor José Miguel Luengo invited the public from inside and outside the municipality not to miss the opportunity «to get to know this beautiful event» in which the best specimens are shown and congratulated the Ornithological Society of San Javier for this competition which has been held for almost 30 years. Germán Tezanos insisted on the invitation to visit the exhibition as a way of raising awareness of ornithology among young people and enjoying the rarest and most spectacular varieties of canaries. Access is free of charge.
