Eduardo Mena, mayor of Chercos: «There is no reason for the motion of censure»

The motion is scheduled to take place on 14 November.

The change of political colour in the municipal government of Chercos, if the motion of censure is successful on 14 November, has lasted four months.

In the last municipal elections, the PSOE candidate, Eduardo Mena, with 74 votes and two councillors, won the support of the Agrupación de Independientes por Chercos (27 votes and one councillor) and the abstention of Ciudadanos (34 votes and one councillor).

In this way they ousted the country’s longest-serving mayor, José Antonio Torres (PP), who at 98 years of age, would now return to take the reins of this municipality of just over 300 inhabitants.

Torres, a retired Civil Guard officer, has been mayor of Chercos since 1995, and has seen his mandate interrupted in the last four months, after losing the iron majority he held.

Asked for his opinion on the reasons for the change of mind of the councillor of the Agrupación de Independientes por Chercos, María Encarnación Franco, the still socialist mayor Eduardo Mena, in dialogue with Comarca Noticias, assures that «there has been no reason for the alliance to break up. There have been no quarrels or disagreements. She will know what she has been offered and why she is doing it. I can assure you that the majority of the residents are with me», he assures, while he predicts that in the plenary session on 14 November at 12 noon, we will be able to see for ourselves.

«Someone is pulling the strings. I don’t know if it’s because of the promotion that comes from having a mayor who can serve a hundred years in office or because from above they want to paint the whole provincial map blue. In time we will see,» says Mena, who says he is «resigned» to the latest political moves.

«Several lists were presented to break the hegemony of the PP government and now everything is back to the way it was», he insists.

In this way, and after the motion of censure presented on 30 October, if nothing changes the course of events, José Antonio Torres will resume the mayoralty on 14 November at 12 noon.
