The Hospital La Inmaculada incorporates the speech therapy service to the Rehabilitation unit.

The new clinic will benefit an average of 400 patients a year in the North Almeria Health Management Area.

The Hospital La Inmaculada of the North Health Management Area of Almeria, has incorporated the speech therapy service to the Clinical Management Unit (CMU) of Rehabilitation of the hospital. This new clinic will benefit an average of 400 patients per year, and its main objective is the treatment of speech disorders related to cerebrovascular accidents, tumour processes: mouth and facial bone cancer, ear, nose and throat diseases and neurological illnesses.

Patients with dysphonia from the ENT specialty, aphasia: speech disorders, dysarthria: speech disorders, dysphagia: swallowing disorders, facial paralysis and tracheotomies derived from the ENT specialty will be referred to the clinic.

The clinic has recently started operating in the mornings and afternoons from Monday to Friday, thus responding to the needs of patients who require this type of care. The team at the new unit is made up of two professionals specialising in speech therapy.

The manager of the Northern Health Management Area of Almeria, José Miguel Medina, has expressed his satisfaction at being able to offer users in the La Inmaculada reference area this service in the hospital facilities, which have an increasing number of resources.

The functions of the category of speech therapist in the SAS consist of providing healthcare, health promotion or administrative-care services to patients, as well as participating in the teaching activities of the unit or in its research programmes. In addition, they also carry out all those activities aimed at providing better care for patients who present alterations in the areas of human communication and disorders associated with them, which include the comprehension and expression of oral and written language, as well as all forms associated with non-verbal communication and the alteration of the promoter and deglutition disorders.
