The Mayor, José Miguel Luengo has participated in the planting of a total of 100 pine trees in the park “Señorío de Roda”, in the district of Roda, at the initiative of the Rotary Club Mar Menor, with the collaboration of Espacio Mediterráneo. Renaturalising the area for the enjoyment of society is the aim of this action, explained Beatriz Sánchez, president of the Mar Menor Rotary Club, who recalled that “one of Rotary’s objectives is the environment and trying to make this world, and in this case this municipality, a better place to live in”.
The mayor, José Miguel Luengo, who was accompanied by the councillor for Parks and Gardens, María Dolores Ruiz, the mayor of Roda, Eulogio Sánchez and other councillors from the government team, thanked the initiative “which makes Roda a little better today”. Luengo pointed out that “every time a tree is planted it is as if an ally has come along to help us improve the wellbeing of our neighbours” and thanked the Espacio Mediterráneo shopping centre for their collaboration. Its representative, José María Pascual del Riquelme pointed out that in addition to contributing to reversing the carbon footprint as a shopping centre, this initiative allows them to contribute to renaturalising their area of influence.
The planting of the one hundred pine trees, which adds to the existing vegetation in this area of Roda, has had a wide social participation. Pupils from CEIP El Mirador, users of the IMAS Day Centre in San Javier and a group of Aidemar users have joined the authorities, members of the Rotary Club and neighbours of the area who have also been encouraged to contribute to a massive plantation that will contribute to the natural improvement of the area.
