At the start of the 11th edition of the Festival de Platos de Película, the Asociación de Empresarios de Hostelería de Almería (ASHAL) pays a double tribute on this occasion. On the one hand, to the cinema and its International Festival (Fical) organised by the Provincial Council and, on the other, to the Calar Alto Observatory, which celebrates its 50th anniversary and has been the source of inspiration for the tapas prepared by the twenty establishments participating in the event. This year, the chefs have looked for films related to space and astronomy to elaborate their culinary creations, as the president of ASHAL, Pedro Sánchez-Fortún, who has shared the event with the Deputy of Culture Almudena Morales and the Councillor of Tourism and Promotion of the City of Almería, Joaquín Pérez de la Blanca, has revealed in the presentation.
“In this edition, the hotel and catering industry not only gives its support to FICAL, making clear the link between gastronomy and cinema – where the arrival of the filmmakers caused a real revolution in the economic, social and, of course, in Almeria’s hotel and catering industry – but also to the Calar Alto Observatory, which put Almería on the map of scientific advances related to astronomy and which has been and is a source of pride for all Almerians”, Sánchez-Fortún pointed out.
ET El Extraterrestre’, ‘Space Cowboys’, ‘Barbareilla, the Queen of the Galaxy’, ‘Prometheus’ are some of the 23 proposals from the hoteliers for their Platos de Película where the culinary and the audiovisual make a perfect pairing. From today until the 3rd of December, customers can start rating their favourite Galactic Dish and cast their vote through the Facebook channels and website www.turismodealmeria.org of the Almeria City Council.
The restaurants with the most votes will receive the gold, silver or bronze suns, as well as various gifts from the companies sponsoring the event, while customer loyalty will be rewarded with a ticket to the autumn cinema club for those who manage to provide two tickets worth more than 20 euros from different participating establishments, as well as contributing 1 euro to the Restaurants Against Hunger campaign, organised by the Spanish Hotel and Catering Federation and Acción contra el Hambre (Action Against Hunger).
Of the 23 businesses participating in the 11th Platos de Película Festival, three are located in the municipalities of Huércal de Almería, Mojácar and Níjar.
After the presentation, members of ASHAL, representatives of the Provincial Council and the Town Hall as well as sponsors toasted to the success of the event.
