Albox City Council recovers the traditional municipal Monumental Nativity Scene

The volunteers of the Spanish Association to Fight Cancer are restoring the pieces of the old birth of the Association ‘Friends of the Three Kings’

In 2016 the Municipal Monumental Nativity Scene of Albox disappeared. That was the year that ended with one of the most deeply rooted traditions of Christmas in Albojense. This ended the visit of all the boys and girls of the schools to one of the largest births in the province, and whose inauguration meant that Christmas had come to the municipality.

The Albox City Council wanted to recover this year the Nativity Scene of the Association ‘Friends of the Three Kings’, the commitment of Enrique Miras and his family, as great supporters of this Albojense tradition. But the pieces of that municipal Nativity Scene were in a very poor state of preservation, and that is why, from the Associations area, its mayor, Vanesa Eagle, has had the help of the ‘Local Board of the Spanish Association to Fight Cancer’, to carry out a restoration workshop.

A dozen women, headed by Filo, with experience in restoration work, and María Sáez, president of the Association, with her companions, every afternoon, Monday to Thursday, They are restoring piece by piece so that this December the people of Albo can inaugurate their Monumental Nativity Scene again.

“We want to recover our Christmas as it has always been. A Christmas with the town associations and where the neighbors are the main protagonists. Unfortunately, our Municipal Nativity Scene was in very poor condition, that is why we have asked for collaboration and they are doing a fantastic job, ”explains the Mayor of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso.

The City Council is enabling a place in the Barrio de La Loma, next to Plaza San Francisco, where the municipal Monumental Nativity Scene will be installed. It will be open to the public during all Christmas holidays so that it can be visited by families from the Almanzora region and children from all schools. In addition, it will have a mailbox to deposit the letters addressed to their Majesties the Three Kings who will visit the municipality next January.

“I want to thank the work that all the volunteers are doing to restore the Nativity Scene. Also to the Friends of the Three Kings Association, for donating this important heritage to the municipality. And I take this opportunity to invite all the residents of Albox and the region to visit us, get to know the Nativity Scene and make purchases in our stores. Now more than ever we have to support local trade ”concludes the mayor, convinced that the opening of the Bethlehem will also serve as an attraction to visit the town and boost proximity trade.
