Mayor José Miguel Luengo has visited the works of the Sports Park, in La Manga del Mar Menor, accompanied by the Director General of Coastal and Ports, Pablo Marín, the Councillor for Sports of San Javier, Sergio Martínez, the Councillor for Public Services, Parks and Gardens, María Dolores Ruiz and the Mayor, José Guerrero. The works, which are progressing at a good pace, are expected to be completed by the end of the year, according to those responsible. The new park recovers the area next to the Canal del Estacio, converting a 15,000 square metre underused space into a natural and sporting enclave.
José Miguel Luengo pointed out that the Sports Park is «a very important infrastructure for La Manga that responds to a demand from the residents and fulfils a commitment of the government team to continue creating open spaces and sports facilities for the use of both residents and visitors». The Mayor of San Javier stressed that the park, which will involve a total investment of 1,1954,568 euros, «will significantly change this important area of La Manga which will have a football pitch, stands, changing rooms, a meeting room, an athletics track, a basketball court and a climbing wall, calisthenics, and paths for pedestrians and cyclists».
The project, which is being developed within the framework of the European Strategy for Sustainable and Integrated Development (EDUSI) «La Manga 365», is 80 per cent financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and 20 per cent by the Community.
