The switching on of the lights and the inauguration of the nativity scene mark the start of Christmas in Cartagena

Last year’s Christmas lights in Cartagena.

The Christmas lights will begin to twinkle this Tuesday evening in Cartagena. At half past seven in the evening in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento the traditional Christmas switch-on will take place. Children’s characters will be on hand to entertain the little ones, and afterwards Adrián Ruíz will perform on the stage next to the Town Hall. An hour earlier, at half past six, the Mayoress will inaugurate the municipal Nativity Scene in the Plaza San Francisco. The event will feature a performance by the women’s a cappella choir Sonrisas Harmony.

A walkable snowman six metres in diameter and ten metres high will be in the Plaza Juan XXIII.

During the festive season more than 1.8 million LEDs will light up the town. One of the main features of this Christmas is the increase in lighting in the Ensanche, the waterfront and the neighbourhoods and council areas. In the centre, the traditional almond branches in Calle del Carmen have also been placed in Santa Florentina, Jabonerías and Puerta de Murcia. In addition, they will be decorated with decorative paper banners which, during the day, will add value to the lights by simulating the effects of the branches of the tree. In other areas, such as Calle Mayor, giant balls have been placed.

A walkable snowman six metres in diameter and ten metres high will be in Plaza Juan XXIII. In the Urbanización Mediterráneo other similar figures have been installed but in the shape of a present.
