Reception at San Javier Town Hall for new students at the General Air Academy (AGA).

The Mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo received 121 future Air Force officers, most of them belonging to the 79th graduating class of the AGA.

The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, received today at the Town Hall the new students of the General Air Academy, who arrived accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Joaquín Aguirre, representing the colonel director of the AGA, Pascual Soria, along with other military commanders. In a ceremony attended by part of the municipal corporation, the mayor welcomed the 121 students who attended the traditional municipal reception, of the 133 who have joined the AGA this academic year, whom he considered “new neighbours of the municipality”. Of the 133 students arriving this year, 22 of them women, 60 will be trained as pilots with a five-year stay at the AGA. The rest, who belong to the Engineer, Quartermaster and Common Corps, will remain in San Javier for one or two years.

The cadet students formed up in the Plaza de España before entering the assembly hall where the reception took place with a few words from the Mayor, José Miguel Luengo who outlined a short history of the municipality up to the present day. José Miguel Luengo underlined the close relationship of the municipality with the AGA, in which he agreed with Lieutenant Colonel Joaquín Aguirre who underlined the union of the two institutions. The student Rubén Álamo, who entered as number one in his class, was in charge of representing his classmates to thank them for the welcome in San Javier, which he referred to as “the heart of the future of military aviation”. After the municipal reception, the cadet students made a floral offering to the patron saint San Francisco Javier in the local church where they visited the Parish Historical Museum, before visiting the Museum of San Javier.
