The Regional Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports of the Region of Murcia, Carmen Conesa, will be in charge of proclaiming Christmas in San Javier, next Saturday 16th December at 20h in the temple of San Francisco Javier, in San Javier. Following the tradition, at the end of the proclamation, there will be the inauguration of the Nativity Scene of the Marquesa, which is installed in the hall of the Town Hall of San Javier. It is a Neapolitan-inspired ensemble, the work of the Friends of the Nativity Scene Association of San Javier. The Nativity Scene takes its name from the Marquesa de Corvera y las Almenas, María Teresa Riquelme de Arce, owner of the mansion which she sold in 1878 so that the Town Hall could be located in its place, as has been the case ever since.
After the Christmas proclamation, the Neapolitan-style Nativity Scene of the Marquesa will be inaugurated in the foyer of the Town Hall.
Christmas in San Javier already made its appearance last weekend with the exchange of choirs «Pórtico de la Navidad», on Saturday afternoon with the Coral Santiago Apóstol and the Coral Polifónica Exilum, from Espinardo, in the church of Santiago de la Ribera. On Sunday, the sound of Christmas flooded the church of San Francisco Javier, with the XVIII Encuentro de Coros Stella Maris Björk, with the participation of the choir Musicalberca, the Coro Agrupación Musical de Beniaján and the Coral Stella Maris Björk, from San Javier. The Christmas in San Javier programme, which includes dozens of activities, shows, workshops and other Christmas events, will be unveiled in full on Wednesday 13 December at an event to be held at the Salzillo Museum in Murcia. In addition to the proclamation and the inauguration of the Marquesa Nativity Scene, the Department of Culture has brought forward the inauguration of the Playmobil Nativity Scene which for another year is installed in San Javier and which will take place next Friday at 20h in the Museum of San Javier.
