A week ago, officers spotted a vehicle on Avenida del Taibilla, which showed signs of being overloaded, as it was driving with its rear end very close to the road. The patrol began to follow the car and observed that the driver had committed several traffic offences. When he became aware of the police presence, he accelerated in an attempt to evade the police, but was nevertheless stopped. During the identification of the driver, a man of Cuban nationality, the officers noticed a strong smell of fuel coming from inside the vehicle.
Agents of the Local Police of San Javier found fourteen carafes and different instruments that could be related to the theft of diesel oil.
During the search, the officers found a total of fourteen bottles of diesel fuel in the boot and rear seats, as well as various tools, such as a hose (with traces of fuel inside), a cut plastic bottle, a box of latex gloves, upholstery cleaning fluid and cleaning rags, as well as a large number of tools.
«Elements that could be related to a fuel theft», according to the proceedings.
Each of the containers had a capacity of 25 litres, so the estimated amount of fuel they contained was approximately 350 litres.
The driver explained to the agents that he had loaded the cylinders at a nearby petrol station, but given his inability to justify the purchase, the contradictions he expressed and the evidence, the agents confiscated the fuel and the instruments, which were deposited in police custody and placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
