The Under-21s play again in Almeria in March

They will play Belgium on 26 March.

The territorial delegate of the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Junta de Andalucía, José Velez, has pointed out that “today is the first working day of the year and we do it with great news, which is announcing what we believe to be a great event and that is that the Spanish under-21 football team will return to Almería in March to play a match”.

The U21 national team will return on Tuesday 26 March, after a year, to play an important official match against Belgium at the Power Horse Stadium in the Almeria capital, in a qualifier for the European Championships to be held in Slovakia in 2025.

It will be their second match of the year as the first will take place in Jerez de la Frontera on Friday 22 March where they will play a friendly against Slovakia, the hosts of the next European Championship.

José Vélez affirms that this “comes to confirm the effort and the policy that we have from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Andalusian Government to bring major events to all our territory and Almería is a special place and the fact that the national team is coming is always a source of joy for everyone”.

The Spanish under-21 football team will return to Almería in March to play an important match, showcasing the region’s efforts to attract major events. The Mayoress of Almería emphasizes the positive impact on promotion, employment, and economic dynamism for the city.

As the Royal Spanish Football Federation has pointed out “the two matches will be possible thanks to the collaboration between the Royal Spanish Football Federation and the Royal Andalusian Football Federation with the Junta de Andalucía, the Provincial Councils of Cádiz and Almería, the City Council of Jerez de la Frontera and the City Council of Almería”.

The Federation has also communicated that “the Spanish national team is the leader of its qualifying group with four wins and a draw in five matches. It will be the third time that the national team has played in this stadium and the fifth time that it has visited the city of Almería, where it is undefeated”.

For her part, the Mayoress of Almería, María del Mar Vázquez, has valued very positively that the city has once again managed to attract an elite sporting event, “which is an excellent promotion not only nationally but also internationally, while generating employment and economic dynamism because it positions Almería as a reference city when it comes to hosting major sporting events”.

“In the field of sport, from the City Council we work with municipal sports schools to promote healthy lifestyle habits, especially among young people, and we are convinced that this type of event is an extra motivation for all those young athletes, who can enjoy the young promises of world football in our city, as they have done before with other sports that have chosen our city for top-level competitions.
