The remains of the rear-view mirror were key to the clarification of the facts.

Personnel from the Traffic Detachment of the Civil Guard in Vera have investigated a neighbour from the east of Almeria as the alleged perpetrator of the offences of serious injuries due to recklessness and leaving the scene of the accident, after colliding with a moped causing serious injuries to its driver and leaving the scene of the accident without providing assistance to the victim. The incident occurred on 9 December last at kilometre 3.500 of the AL-6113 road linking the towns of Turre and Mojácar.

The Civil Guards who went to the scene of the incident began the investigation and located the remains of a rear-view mirror of a vehicle which could be related to the accident. After analysing the remains found, the type, make and model of the vehicle to which they belonged were ascertained. With this information and after a search, a vehicle that could correspond to the one involved in the accident was located a few days later in a nearby neighbourhood.

After a technical-ocular inspection of the vehicle and compared with the traces found at the scene, the results were positive, and the vehicle was seized and the driver investigated as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of abandoning the scene of the accident and another of serious negligence.

The driver could face imprisonment and deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for a period of one to four years.
