Corvera airport will have buses to Cartagena and Murcia as of Friday

Passengers on Volotea flights to Madrid and Barcelona will have buses to travel from Murcia and Cartagena to the airport from next Friday. The Minister of Public Works, José Manuel Pancorbo, announced this Tuesday the launch of the service, which will cost 1.85 euros per ticket. The two bus lines will cost the Community 22,591 euros to run from 12 January to 25 March. Pancorbo does not rule out that the service will be renewed from March onwards if it is successful in these two months.

Fomento has recovered the bus connection to the airport, which this summer was in operation between June and September, although the new service will only operate on the two days of the week that Volotea operates, Fridays and Mondays.

Departures from the bus stations of Murcia and Cartagena in the direction of Corvera and return journeys from the airport itself are established in coordination with the flight schedules of that company, which will also fly in summer to Asturias, Santander and Bilbao.

They can also be used by passengers of the other airlines flying to the region on those two days. Pancorbo has assured that Mondays and Fridays are the days of the week with the highest number of flights from the Region’s international airport, with 16 and 14 operations, respectively.

The regional government allocates more than 22,500 euros to boost the connection between Corvera aerodrome and both cities on Mondays and Fridays.

During the autumn and winter season it is possible to travel from Corvera to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Morocco, the Canary Islands, Madrid and Barcelona.

Volotea is the company that has been awarded the 2.4 million euro contract awarded by the Autonomous Community to fly from the Region to Madrid and Barcelona. Both routes started operating at the beginning of December.

In addition to the 2.4 million euro contract with Volotea, which the regional government will spend to re-establish the connection with the first two Spanish capitals and to publicise the Region’s tourism possibilities, the 22,591 euro for the bus service to Murcia and Cartagena will now be added.

With these contributions, the Community intends to relaunch traffic at the regional airport, which has not only failed to recover the passenger volume it reached before the pandemic, but has not even managed to maintain last year’s user figures.

The councillor, who travelled to Corvera this Tuesday to present the new bus service together with the airport director, Carlos San Martín, and the general director of Mobility and Transport, María Dolores Solana, explained that its objective is “to facilitate the direct transfer from the airport to the bus stations of Murcia and Cartagena to all those travellers” who are preparing to fly or who arrive in the Region by plane.

Pancorbo highlighted the new routes “which are an alternative to the railway, since the journey to Barcelona is unfeasible due to the lack of infrastructures and the one to Madrid has not fulfilled the expectations”.
