Provincial Council of Almeria’s ‘Family Boosting’ workshops reach more than 3,000 people in Almeria

More than 3,000 Almerians of all ages and from all corners of the province of Almeria, especially from the smallest towns, have participated in the activities designed by the Provincial Council of Almeria in the programme ‘Boosting Families’ during 2023. This initiative aims to raise awareness in society of the value of the family as a fundamental pillar of the province of Almeria by creating spaces to promote intergenerational relationships.

These initiatives have been aimed at all families in their wide diversity, focusing on the rural environment to strengthen ties and share recreational and learning spaces. The strategic lines that have been carried out are as follows:

– Family leisure and new learning activities in municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants and Minor Local Entities.

– Actions for all families, at provincial level, that promote rural knowledge of the province and the acquisition of values.

– The visibility and empowerment of our families.

The ‘Impulsando Familias’ programme has been divided into six major projects: Rural Tradition in Family, Weaving Family Ties, Let’s Create in Family, Empowering Families, We are Visible Families and Nature in Family.

The Deputy for Equality and Family, Ana Lourdes Ramírez, has made a very positive assessment of the activities promoted last year and has highlighted the high participation of the six programmes of the project, as well as thanking the institutional collaboration of the municipalities involved and, above all, the achievement of the proposed objectives to “give tools to families and our municipalities for the creation of new learning with which to share family experiences as the best legacy of the new generations”.

The ‘Empowering Families’ project has aimed to empower families and work together through new competencies, skills and learning to improve their family well-being and bring about change in their rural communities. The activities that have made up this programme are the 11th Positive Parenting Conference and the Conference “I build family when I identify, understand and accompany”. They have been attended by 200 people.

The ‘Weaving Family Bonds’ project has been one of the most popular, with over a thousand participants, with the celebration of Family Day (15 May), the celebration of Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day (1 June), the celebration of Grandparents’ Day (26 July), the celebration of Children’s Rights (20 November) and the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 December). This project highlights the recognition of family members, mothers, fathers, grandfathers and grandmothers, boys, girls and adolescents, to enhance their active role within their family space and to promote intergenerational coexistence among all family members.

The “Rural Tradition in the Family Project” recovers, in a playful way and with the family, the knowledge of rural traditions and customs of the province of Almeria. These activities have placed the value of families in rural areas such as municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants and support to offer them leisure and training alternatives to promote better living conditions to prevent rural depopulation. 200 people took part in 12 workshops on different themes, such as beekeeping with the making of decorative candles with wax, traditional cooking and the making of artisan bread.

The “Let’s Create as a Family Project”, which focuses on the development of creativity and the expression of pictorial skills in different formats, working as a family team to create a unique and special painting, bag or ornament created as a family. They have been carried out in 21 municipalities with a total of 600 people, who have enjoyed family gymkhanas, decoration of flower pots and floral decorations.

Finally, the “Nature in Family” project, with which we are committed to respect and responsible care of nature, as well as the participation of families in activities in natural environments in our province. There have been four different activities, such as the family kayaking route, the “Know your desert experience”, “Beekeepers for a day” and the “Mills of the river Aguas de Sorbas” route and the costume jewellery workshop.
