The Guardia Civil of Almeria has arrested a 35 year old man who was driving at high speed on the A7 motorway towards Murcia. The individual was driving a high-end, high-powered vehicle with numerous large bags in the boot containing marijuana buds ready for distribution.
This investigation is the result of the continuous preventive activities carried out by the Guardia Civil in its ongoing fight against the trafficking, cultivation or processing of narcotic substances throughout the province of Almeria and in this case in the region of Levante Almeriense.
Thanks to the preventive functions carried out, during the early hours of January 10, at around 3:30 am, a patrol of the Guardia Civil of the main post of Huércal Overa, which was carrying out public safety and prevention services on the aforementioned highway, observed a vehicle that, upon police presence, began a dangerous overtaking at high speed, causing a risk to the agents who were forced to perform an evasive manoeuvre to avoid being rammed.

The officers managed to identify the vehicle’s number plate and began to follow the vehicle at some distance, giving it light and acoustic signals to stop. However, the driver ignored the indications and decided to increase his speed, occupying both lanes of the carriageway in an attempt to flee and avoid being hit.
The officers immediately reported the incident to the Guardia Civil’s Command and Control Centre (062) to organise a joint operation with other public safety patrols to intercept the driver of the car. Moments later, the fleeing vehicle chose to leave the A-7 motorway at kilometre point 664, where the Guardia Civil patrols of Huércal Overa and Zurgena managed to intercept it.
The driver tried to get out of the vehicle, disobeying at all times the orders of the agents and resisting with a high degree of aggression towards them. After his arrest, the Guardia Civil examined the vehicle, in whose boot they intercepted nearly 20 kilos of large-calibre marijuana buds in a state of optimal desiccation for consumption. They were stored in large plastic bags for subsequent distribution and sale.
As a result of this action, the agents of the Guardia Civil of Almeria have proceeded to the arrest of this person as the author of the crimes against public health for drug trafficking, reckless driving, and for the crimes of resistance, disobedience and attack on agents of the authority in the exercise of their duties.
The detainee, together with the proceedings and the drugs seized, were placed at the disposal of the Duty Court of Huércal Overa, who ordered him to be remanded in prison.
